When I was I child, I wasn’t allowed to enter that special room where granddad used to hide himself. It was only after he died that I heard people say that he had been working on his “perpetuum mobilee”. I think this caused my fascination with time. Years passed by and I got my first watch (Commodor) at the age of 12.
I first saw an American vintage wrist watch when I was in my forties. A few years later I found a shop in Germany with several vintage timepieces. Unable to decide (or permit myself) to buy a watch for myself, I bought the German version (Callwey, Munich) of “American Wristwatches” by Steward Unger and Edward Faber. This book gave me so much pleasure to look at that I didn’t need to have a watch for myself and it took another few years before I bought my first Bulova.
Now in my fifties I have not only started my own collection but also decided to become an internet trader. I pride myself on saying that every watch I buy is good enough for my own personal collection. Therefore I’m searching in America and I only buy watches from collectors, reliable watch dealers and repair shops. I specialise in American Vintage Rectangular wrist watches, hence the name: Amvira. You will find the most famous names among them; Benrus, Bulova, Elgin, Gruen, Hamilton, Hampden, Illinois and Waltham. At last I have found my peace and I would like to share it with you. By collecting and trading these wonderful timepieces I have finally found a way to keep granddad’s “perpetuum mobilee” going.
